![]() What is Yom Chi?
![]() Basically, if you want a quck rundown of what Yom Chi is... then wait a fewyears until I get it to the point where I'd feel comfortable taking on a few students. When that happens, ask me to teach and I'll be more than happy to. Like the quote at the beginning of the site says, "...no one can define martial arts..." so any definition that you could gain would be if you trained in it and let your own mind run free with what you think it is.
![]() What I can give you, however, is some extremely basic elements of what I've factored into my art.
![]() --- All philosophies, from personal to martial, are based on the mind, body, and spirit. All being represented by the Sun, Earth, and Moon (respectively).
![]() --- Meditation is a major element in training. As with most fighting, Yom Chi is 90% mental.
![]() --- Everyone (from the newest student to the oldest excluding, of course, the Master Instructors) is equal in Yom Chi. All bow to each other, all refer to each other respectfully, all have an even say.
![]() --- Another main aspect of Yom Chi is sparring practice. After it is determined that a student has sufficient grounding in proper techinque, he or shie is introduced to sparring. Out of ten Classes, four will be completely centered around fight training.
![]() --- Weapon training in Yom Chi is INTENSE. It is violent to the senses, brutal to the body, and wearing on the mind. Becoming a Yom Chi weapon master is the ultimate in training for any Yom Chi student. Yom Chi weapon training is the single most intense training available in Yom Chi.
![]() --- New styles are openly welcome in Yom Chi. Everything is equal, therefore everything is viable.
![]() Yom Chi is not like other art forms in the sense that it keeps developing. I say that it is different from other styles in this regard due solely to the fact that most other "main stream" styles are extremely rigid and have no freedom of modification or customization. Alot of styles today still preach some techniques as "fight techniques" or "self defense techniques" that have no relevance and are absolutely ridiculous. In this, they also tend to be extremely volatile to the creation of anything new... as if because a technique is ancient they must blindly follow it and not attain full potential out of what they call "respect". I've always said that respect is not given to ANYONE. It is earned by everyone. This is as it should be. People must learn to see the difference between respecting something and blindly following it.
![]() That is Yom Chi at a very quick glance.
